Website for educators: eschoolnews.com

A good resource of educational articles at eschoolnews.com

Here is a very interesting site for educators that has a wide variety of articles well categorized on subjects.

Here are a two articles that are related to my research project on dance and Physical Education:

The first one is discussing new trends in bringing new technology in the PE classes:

Technology brings ‘new P.E.’ to schools

Quote from article: “Physical education teachers are trading in their traditional equipment for heart-rate monitors and video games that encourage running, jumping, and stretching. Taken together, these two trends are transforming P.E. classes across the country and are spurring school officials to vie for millions in grants.”

The second one discuss how videos and videos games are helping children be more fit.

Students dance their way to fitness

Quote from article: “But in the past few years, some of the most popular video games make players sweat and get the heart rate up and are just as addicting as those that exercise only the thumbs. And some schools have been using the games in their physical education curriculum to get students fired up about fitness.”

Berkeley College of Music in Boston (Blog Pages)

LEARNING ABOUT MUSIC AND MUSIC PRODUCTION

When looking for a reference site for music technology learning, I found the top worldwide college of music: the Berkeley College of Music in Boston (BCMB).

“Berklee College of Music is the world’s largest independent music college and the premier institution for the study of contemporary music.”  from the BCMB webpages.

They offer a complete range of topics from basic music composition all the way to music production.

“Students develop musical competencies in such areas as composition, performance and recording/production.” from the BCMB webpages.

I have chosen to reference to this site because of the world-class level teaching and students. Past graduates of BCMB include:

“prominent music industry professionals, Quincy Jones; a Melissa Etheridge; Donald Fagen; Gary Burton; Patty Larkin;  John Scofield;Bruce Cockburn; Kevin Eubanks; Paula Cole; and Branford Marsalis.” from the BCMB webpages.

One of the very useful service they offer is a website made of blogs from teachers and students and can be found at http://www.berkleemusicblogs.com/. I have found so many of those blogs to be fascinating and educative. It is a real gold mine of information from people directly involved in the field of music and production. I have read through a large collection of blogs from 2008 and I have listed my favorite 15 blogs below. Those blogs broadened my knowledge about music education, music for kids, music software (notation, softsynths, music composing (arrangements, rhythms,…), music industry news (NAMM show) and music trends (Music 2.0). Great reads!!
